Overview In the Heart of the Storm is a publication created with the intention of bringing the devastating realities of life after a hurricane to central Texas. This publication would be a way for a larger audience to not only be educated on the impact a natural disaster like this has on a community, but also be informed on ways to help those impacted. As the creator, I hope to inspire future publications about the heartbreaking effects of natural disasters around the United States.

Challenges For this publication to have the desired impact, it was crucial that it shared true stories of the destruction a hurricane caused to emphasize the severity of this natural disaster. The audience should feel the weight of the heavy topic as they look through the pages of stories and photos of the aftermath.

Approach I decided to keep a traditional layout to keep a serious tone while using type with broken design to create a destructive look and feel. Multiple text layouts were created to evoke an uneasy feeling and reiterate the concept of missing pieces.
